Mayflower Drama Project

The Mayflower Drama Project is now ready to be shared!

The Mayflower Drama Project came out of developments between Transforming Plymouth Together, Plymstock Chapel and a few other partners, as we have on our hearts, here in Plymouth, the desire to tell the faith story of the Mayflower journey

The project is a week-long programme for schools made up of a combination of videos alongside worksheets and additional topical resources for school years 4,5 and 6 to explore the faith story of the Pilgrims.

We commissioned 4Front Theatre, a professional drama company, to film on the Matthew ship in Bristol, drama videos in a ‘Horrible Histories’ style dramas, a mix of education and entertainment. We have then created discussion videos that follow up each episode alongside lesson plans and worksheets as well.

The aim is that each episode will be done during each day of the week with the final episode being shown on Friday with (subject to Covid rules) a visitor would come into school to talk further about the topics covered.

We have worked with teachers and educators to ensure that the resources are curriculum appropriate and also allow for other subjects to be considered in the activities.

We’ve tried to keep it as affordable as possible, we’ve been able to get most of the costs covered through grants and other funding. However, we are asking for a £25 booking fee from either schools or groups to cover additional costs in distribution.

If you're a church with contacts at schools or run youth groups, we’d love our resource to be used to share the story of the Pilgrims, their faith and why 401 years ago they travelled from the shores of Plymouth to America.
